Who We Are
Made By Humans is an award winning designer and distributor of contemporary giftware, home and office accessories, and stationery and promotional items. We offer unique products that have a distinctively modern look, that are functional and, last but not least, affordable. We try to be creative and innovative in what we do and don’t mind pushing the envelope a bit when it comes to new product development. Our customers always tell us that our stuff is "so different", and that’s just how we like it!
Short History
We have been in business since 1989.
We started out as a company specializing in the design and production of 3-dimensional puzzles. They were entirely made by hand from different types of natural wood. Although successful, we decided to try out something completely different after a number of years and introduced a rather innovative line of flower vases. They were made from high-tech, modern materials such as resin, thermoplastic rubber and acrylic.
It proved to be a major turning point for the company.
The vases were a big hit and we began to direct all our efforts into the development of more and other home décor products. As a result the company experienced a tremendous growth spurt, it more than doubled its staff and has had to move to larger premises.
We presently serve more than 5,000 customers in Canada, the US and other parts of the world. They are primarily museum shops, gift stores, home décor stores, stationery stores, catalog and promotional companies. Apart from developing our own in-house designs, Made By Humans frequently cooperates with other designers in Europe and North America.
What’s in a Name?
The name Made By Humans serves as a reminder. Our company no longer makes handcrafted products. But no matter how much we, as a company – and all of us together as a society – have come to rely on modern technology, humans are still meant to be in charge of that technology, rather than the other way around. Technology should be a mere tool for human purposes. Hence we try to be everything that machines typically are not: playful in our approach, imaginative in our ideas, creative in our designs, unpredictable, even downright whimsical – in short, just human, all too human.
